To get started:

click the Apple icon in the menu bar and choose the “System Preferences” option.

Navigate to the section called “Sounds.”

Here, from the “Sound Effects” tab, take a look at the “Select and Alert Sound” section.To switch to it, pick a sound effect.  “Submerge” effect was a good balance between playful and soothing.

You can also reduce the alert volume so that the alert sound is not as jarring.From the “Alert Volume” section, drag the slider to the left to reduce the alert volume.

And this is it. You’re done.

You can also have a flash screen when an alert appears. Choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Audio and select “Flash the screen when the sound is alerted.”
